San Diego’s vibrant Little Italy community will celebrate the holiday season withthe lighting of a very special public centerpiece this weekend: a 25-foot treemade of more than 1,100 bright, red poinsettias.
The lights on the tree will be switched on at 5:30 p.m. sharp at the PiazzaBasilone – more than 2,000 lights, to be precise.
The festive gathering will include Santa Claus riding into Little Italy at 4 p.m. onLittle Italy Fire Engine 3.
Jolly St. Nick will then take photos with kids through 6:30 p.m. Organizers saythe family-friendly event will include an arts and crafts area for kids, withactivities presented by Washington Elementary STEAM Magnet School andArtReach.
Vendors will also line the streets, and attendees can get some holiday shoppingdone at the Little Italy Mercato while enjoying live performances by carolers andWashington Elementary School students.
Of course, seasonal goodies, including snacks and beverages will also beavailable for purchase.
